Lion Brand Clothing was produced by Beath, Schiess & Co. of Melbourne. The company started in 1861 on Flinders Street, Melbourne by Charles Pyne, Thomas S. Harrison and David Beath. In 1865, Harrison moved to New Zealand and Eugen Schiess bought into the company. Pyne died in 1868, and the company then became Beath, Schiess & Co.
Beath Schiess & Co, imported and manufactured Manchester goods, woolen goods, hats, shirts and ties, trousers, boots and shoes, dress goods, underclothing, laces and silks, ribbons, hosiery and gloves, millinery, corsets, haberdashery, toys and fancy goods, carpets and curtains.

The Lion Brand Stockman's Mole Trousers (moleskin) were imported into Queensland by Finney, Isles & Co. of Brisbane. The sold for 7 shillings a pair.
